Today I am so delighted to share the work of Linda Davey, the creative designer & bespoke Wedding Dress seamstress, from the west yorkshire based and very fabulous No 9 Bridal Couture.

No. 9 Dresses have a personal yet very authentic vintage feel to them, the collection boasts designs that are inspired by the 1940′s and 1950′s as well as earlier styles from the 1900′s that look like you could have stepped straight off the titanic.

Linda stumbled into wedding gowns when a dear friend asked her to make her wedding dress. Thankfully she obliged and gifted it to her as her wedding present.

From that moment, Linda soon found she was being commissioned to make further bespoke gowns. Originally the business spent 10 years working from home, but them Linda ventured into selling gowns instead of making them and spent a few years at a leading Bristol bridal store, Pronuptia.
After taking a break and then migrating north to Yorkshire, (and lucky for us) Linda re launched the business in 2009, at the height of what still is a tricky time for businesses in the Uk.

“The first year was tough. Having to establish myself not only in the bridal industry, but also in the height of a recession. In 2010 I first saw my name not only in print, but in one of the major bridal magazines, Perfect wedding. A client was a real life bride and not long after that, the orders came in thick and fast.
I’ve since featured in magazines such as Pure Weddings, Perfect wedding, Attire Bridal, Vintage Life and an online supplement of You and Your Wedding. I’ve also appeared on Love My Dress and Rock n Roll Bride wedding blogs.”

So I asked Linda what she loves most about her job “I love the interaction with clients and through many of the features is has enabled me to take the business to a spacious studio rather than the back room of our home. This in turn has brought more clients asking for me to create their dream wedding gown. Something super exciting for me was the creation of our Tuscan dress for one of the top uk photographers Chris Hanley. Chris is to be guest photographer at a shoot in Tuscany next week along with, considered by many to be among the top wedding photographers in the world, Damien Lovegrove. I designed the gown around the location, model and of course my love of things which inspire me, Dior , Valentino and Hollywood designer Edith Head.
